Just because you have a small closet doesn't mean you can't have tons of storage space! Smaller closets can be goldmines for storage with the right design. Maximizing every inch of existing space is the key to creating even more space in a small closet. Here are a few ways you can increase the storage potential of your small closet:

1. Take advantage of Vertical Space

What a small closet lacks in width it can make up for in vertical space. Embrace double hanging to give yourself twice the amount of hanging room for clothes. For a young child, triple hanging rods in a closet will truely maximize the available storage space. If you want to take things a step further, staggered rods will give you even more space and give you room for long-hanging items like dresses.

2. Don't be afraid to add Shelves

The space freed up by double or staggered hanging creates the perfect spot for shelving. Install shelves directly above the hanging rods and use them for storing purses, stacking sweaters, shoe boxes, etc. 

3. Opt for Wall Mounted

Every inch of space in a small closet is prime real estate for storage, including the floor! With a wall-mounted closet system, it leaves the floor space open for additional storage and easy cleaning. Want to get rid of a dresser to create more available space in a bedroom? Include drawers or pull-out baskets in your closet. 

4. Use Slide-Outs for Additional Storage

The sides of your closet are also great places to incorporate more storage. Slide-out belt and tie racks attach to the side panels of the closet and hold multiple items without taking away precious space for shelves and hanging. 

Square footage isn't the be-all and end-all of storage space in a closet. With a touch of smart design and organization, even a small closet can feel spacious!
